In 2022, Esch-sur-Alzette, the second largest city in Luxembourg, was European Capital of Culture along with the 10 other PRO-SUD municipalities and the 8 French municipalities of the Communauté de Communes Pays Haut Val d’Alzette (CCPHVA). This title is awarded each year to a different city or region of the European Union.
