The Minett region in the south of Luxembourg has been designated as the country’s first UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 2020, covering an area of more than 200 km² and managed by the PRO-SUD consortium. The area combines an exceptional natural wealth, a biodiversity that has reappeared after the end of open-cast mining, a historical heritage worthy of protection, and modern urban development that is necessary due to the continuous population growth.

The MiNELL – Minett Natur an Ëmwelt LéierLab project, funded by the Fonds National de la Recherche, was launched in January 2022 to inform the population about the importance of biodiversity and to find solutions to environmental challenges. Almost 2,000 people, including around 1,400 children and young people, were able to learn about the natural, historical and cultural wealth of the Minett through interactive and interdisciplinary workshops.
This innovative project is now entering a new phase. But one thing remains the same: the creative and participatory communication of natural science and environmental management topics to children, young people and adults.
Join us and be inspired to protect our unique environment!
