The Minett UNESCO Biosphere is developing its territory
In the fight against climate change and the global loss of biodiversity, the Minett UNESCO Biosphere is taking concrete action to strengthen the resilience of its territory. In 2025, many projects have highlighted our ambition to combine urban planning, the conservation of ecosystems, and the promotion of local resources.
The Tutti Frutti project is a perfect example of this. By making municipal orchards accessible to the public, we combat food waste, strengthen the connection between residents and their heritage, and create cool recreational havens in our towns and cities. The project’s interactive map, which lists over 2,600 trees, was visited 48% more frequently this year than in 2024, showing the public’s enthusiasm. The project is even inspiring our French neighbours, with whom we are preparing a cross-border map of public orchards!
In 2025, our Biodiversity and Geodiversity Days were once again a great success. Our spring event, now called “Nature & More”, attracted a broader and more diverse audience thanks to a new communication strategy. As for the Geodiversity Day, despite being postponed to another date due to a weather warning, it had a record attendance, demonstrating the public’s growing interest in our natural and geological heritage.
Alongside bio- and geodiversity, we are also committed to our local producers!
Supporting local producers is another of our priorities. Although the project for a large producers’ shop in the Minett UNESCO Biosphere territory is progressing slowly – as the producers confirm their interest whilst also seeing the financial risks – we continue to support them. The municipal syndicate PRO-SUD is prepared to support the communication for this future innovative business idea, which could become a real showcase for our biosphere reserve.
At the same time, we are strengthening relationships within Luxembourg. Our visit to the Nordstad in October was an opportunity to discover their local initiatives, such as the OnPerfekt shop, which combats food waste, or the Lebensmittelpunkt (Food Hub) shop in Warken. This exchange enriches our own strategy, especially for the “Mmmh…Minett!” brand, whose honey from local beehives is now available in supermarkets, thereby reaching a wider audience.
Every initiative, from the neighbourhood orchard to the jar of local honey, is a building block for a territory that is more sustainable, solidary, and connected to its environment.
