First local producers’ day

The first edition of the “Local Producers’ Day” took place on Saturday 19th of March in the Cultural Centre “Käerjenger Treff” in Bascharage and was initiated by the administrator of the Minett UNESCO Biosphere, the syndicate of municipalities PRO-SUD, and its partners. This was an opportunity to have an in-depth exchange of views with the producers from the Minett and surrounding area who were present on site.

Willingness to support local production

Minett UNESCO Biosphere and Au Goût du terroir had invited the farmers and craftsmen to an information, discussion and training meeting. Anouk Boever Thill, president of PRO-SUD, expressed the political will to support them by using the opportunities offered by the Minett UNESCO Biosphere to promote their local products in short circuits.

After learning about the projects already launched by the Minett UNESCO Biosphere, the participants were able to discuss two subjects that refer to the results of a survey conducted among the inhabitants of the southern region. Thus, a debate was launched on the relevance of the opening of producer shops and their expectations towards the big supermarkets where the population prefers to buy local products. The other topic was an advertising campaign on local products to overcome the lack of knowledge of consumers but also to create links with the professionals of the food industry.

At noon, the participants enjoyed a meal at the Brasserie D’Braustuff and continued their conversations. In the afternoon, they took the opportunity to learn more about why, how and when to communicate about their products with ‘EVERARD Consulting & Communication’ or how to set up a Green Events sales stand with Oekozenter Pafendall.

Second meeting in autumn

The first day of local producers from the south of Luxembourg gave them an opportunity to present their expectations. The regional stakeholders will now analyse their suggestions before meeting again this autumn to jointly plan further concrete steps to improve the promotion of the products of the Minett UNESCO Biosphere.

Au Goût du Terroir from September 30th to October 2nd

At the end of September, local food producers and craftsmen will also present their products and skills to the general public. Between September 30th and October 2nd, the municipality of Käerjeng, the Minett UNESCO Biosphere and the nature parks of Mëllerdall, Öewersauer and Our invite you to the “Au Goût du Terroir“. Some 90 exhibitors from the region and the rest of the country will show and sell their local products at this major Esch2022 event. In addition, there will be a series of workshops and ateliers focusing on taste, scent and pleasure.
