Climate Change

Understand. Reflect. Empathise. Act

Today, the IPCC published the first part of its 6th report on climate change. In this report, researchers from the UN World Climate Council once again highlight the potential consequences of CO2 emissions in our atmosphere.

One of the conclusions of the report is that the global average temperature is still rising. The goal, set by the international community with the Paris Agreement on climate change, of limiting the temperature increase to well below 2 degrees Celsius compared to the average temperature before industrialisation appears to be in jeopardy. A global temperature increase of 1.5 degrees on average could be reached by the beginning of the next decade. This value should be exceeded by 2040 at the latest. In their last report, the climate scientists still assumed that this climate threshold would be reached between 2030 and 2052.

This makes it all the more important that everyone is informed about climate change and its consequences. In this context, an online course offered by UNESCO’s Mahatma Ghandi Institute for Peace and Sustainable Development is of particular interest.

In this 20-hour online course, you can learn more about climate change and its possible consequences on nature, the environment and human society.

The course is in English and is aimed at young people over the age of 13, but also at teachers from all over the world and aims to provide the younger generation with a serious and scientific background to actively engage in the fight against climate change.

You can find more information about the course in this PDF and you can register here to attend the course itself. There is an urgent need to take action now so that the most serious consequences of climate change (heat waves, droughts, forest fires, loss of valuable ecosystems, …) can still be avoided, or at least limited.
