This collaboration is part of a shared desire to turn the southern region into an exemplary biosphere reserve that can face up to the challenges of climate change and build a sustainable future for its inhabitants.
Accompanied by municipal technicians, the Minister and the members of the PRO-SUD committee demonstrated their shared commitment to working hand in hand for a model region. This moment of exchange was an opportunity to present the strategic framework and the numerous projects implemented in the Minett UNESCO Biosphere, divided into five main areas reflecting the diversity of the actions carried out:
- Urban development;
- Mobility;
- Food production and biodiversity;
- Carbon and energy monitoring;
- Public participation and raising awareness.
Christian Weis, President of PRO-SUD, highlighted: ‘This meeting shows that our collective commitment is bearing fruit. We are all working in the same direction to ensure that our communities build an exemplary region capable of meeting the challenges of the future. The mobilisation of everyone – elected representatives, technicians and citizens – is crucial to building this sustainable future.
Minister Claude Meisch welcomed this collective approach. I am delighted to see the municipalities working so closely together on key issues such as climate adaptation. The regional bioclimatic map presented today is a valuable resource that can also guide planning at the national level. He added: ‘The optimisation of the regional cycle network is another example of this fruitful cooperation. The efforts made by the local authorities demonstrate their desire to work towards more sustainable mobility at local level and to ensure that regional planning meets the expectations of our citizens.
This meeting shows once again that cooperation and coordination between the various actors is the key to sustainable spatial planning.
