IFEN training: Biodiversity of the Minett UNESCO Biosphere

This training combines a concise introduction to the natural and cultural landscape of the Minett UNESCO Biosphere with a field excursion to former open-pit mining areas. The focus is on biodiversity, characteristic habitats, and practical ideas for integrating these topics into teaching.

What can participants expect?

Participants will receive an introduction to the unique features of the Minett UNESCO Biosphere and gain insight into the biodiversity of former open-pit mining sites. They will observe characteristic habitats such as dry grasslands, rocky habitats, and forests, and become familiar with selected animal and plant species, including orchids, wild bees, butterflies, reptiles, and the woodlark. They will also receive ideas and inspiration for designing nature-based educational activities with school classes and integrating them into the curriculum.

Objective of the training

Participants will gain knowledge and practical ideas for exploring the natural environment of former open-pit mining areas together with their students. They will learn how to observe ecological relationships in the field, identify typical species and habitats, and incorporate biodiversity and sustainable development into classroom teaching.
