Ecoacoustic Workshop & Fieldtrip

with artist Sam Erpelding

Date(s)

29/10/2025 10:00 - 12:00

What does our environment sound like, and what information is ecologically relevant in terms of environmental monitoring? What impact do man-made noises have on wildlife, and how can acoustic methods contribute to species conservation?

This workshop by Sam Erpelding gives you an introduction to basic research methods in eco-acoustics. During an excursion to the Ellergronn nature reserve in Esch-sur-Alzette (LU), field research practices will be presented with the aid of sound technology.

The sounds of the environment are recorded using audio technology and analysed scientifically. From animal sounds to sounds under water, in the trees and on the ground, you'll get new insight of the human acoustic impact on the living around us.

Sam Erpelding is the current in-university resident artist. The research residency is organised both by Espace_Cultures-University of Luxembourg and Casino Display/Casino-Forum d'art contemporain.

.

Also note the symposium with the artist and UniLU researchers on October 21st.
