Barrington Levy was born in Kingston in 1964. He developed a passion for music and singing at an early age. His first influences were Dennis Brown and the Jackson Five, and he formed his first band with his cousin, the Mighty Multitude. Their first song, "My Black Girl", was released in 1975. Three years later Barrington Levy began his solo career with the single "A Long Time Since We Don't Have No Love". It was also during this period that he sang backing vocals for Byron Lee & the Dragonnaires. However, it was several years before he was recruited by Henry "Junjo" Lawes. The latter had Barrington Levy recorded at Channel One, where the musicians who would go on to form the Roots Radics a few years later were based, and The Scientist was in charge of mixing!

And so he began to challenge the supremacy of the deejays of the day. In 1984, Barrington Levy released his album "Money Move" and "Prison Oval Rock", in collaboration with his long-time producer Junjo Lawes. And it was in 1985 that Barrington sang "Under Mi Sensi", a track produced by Jah Scew, who has since become a reggae legend. The song went round the world. His next big tune, "Here I Come", on the classic Intercom Riddim, followed the same path.

He went on to release a host of albums and collaborate with a number of artists. If there's one that stands out, it's 'Living Dangerously', which reunited Barrington with artists like Snoop Doggy Dog, Bounty Killer and Lady G.
