Three Conferences on the Challenges Ahead
To encourage dialogue and foster a broader discussion about the future of the region, the Fondation Bassin Minier is organising a series of three public conferences and debates dedicated to the future of Franco-Luxembourg cross-border cooperation. Researchers, elected representatives, experts and local stakeholders will explore the major issues shaping our shared living area.
A Reference Publication to Better Understand Regional Challenges
The conference series is closely linked to the special issue of forum magazine entitled “Terres communes ou terres d’exclusion? Une (brève) introduction aux relations transfrontalières franco-luxembourgeoises”, published in May 2026. The publication brings together contributions from researchers, territorial experts and institutional actors, examining key topics such as mobility, housing, employment, taxation, governance and spatial planning.
Rather than offering simple answers, the publication highlights the growing interdependence between territories and invites readers to reflect on how a more balanced and sustainable form of cross-border development could be achieved.
Three Opportunities to Discuss the Future
20 October in Villerupt
Vers un bassin de vie commun ? Nature, culture, sport et tourisme
27 October in Luxembourg City
Un espace fonctionnel à bout de souffle ? Marché du travail, mobilité et logement
10 November in Luxembourg Kirchberg
These events will offer participants the opportunity to compare perspectives, share experiences and imagine together the forms of cooperation that will be needed in the years ahead.
Why Attend?
Cross-border issues affect far more than cross-border workers alone. They have a direct impact on quality of life, territorial planning, access to housing, daily mobility, environmental resources, and the cultural and tourism development of the region.
For the Minett UNESCO Biosphere, these discussions are particularly relevant. They provide an opportunity to reflect on how neighbouring territories can work together to develop sustainable solutions while preserving their unique identities.
Participation is free of charge, although registration is recommended. Join the conversation and help shape the future of our cross-border region.
