Producers’ market at the “Dag an der Natur”

As part of Biodiversity Days 2023, Saturday 13 May is the date of the traditional “Dag an der Natur” which we, as Minett UNESCO Biosphere, have been organising together with the Ellergronn Nature Conservation Centre of the Nature and Forest Agency (ANF) and the City of Esch since 2021.

This year, the “Dag an der Natur” will be bigger than in previous years, as Visit Minett has become another partner in the organisation of the event and will seize the opportunity to officially inaugurate the 90-kilometre Minett Trail, which connects the 11 municipalities of our biosphere reserve. This trail, which has been fully signposted since last spring, passes through 9 different nature reserves, through 8 towns and 7 villages of the Minett.

To mark the official opening of the Minett Trail, Visit Minett is also offering four guided walks of varying difficulty to Ellergronn. These start from Tetange (8.5 km), Schifflange (9 km), Belvaux (10.5 km) and Dudelange (23 km).

There will also be all-day entertainment and fun including workshops and demonstrations on the grounds of the Ellergronn Nature Conservation Centre. You can find the details here:

Market with local producers

As a Minett UNESCO Biosphere, the promotion of local food is especially important to us. Hence, last year we launched the brand “Mmmh…. Minett!” and we participated together with the nature parks from the north of Luxembourg and the municipality of Käerjeng in the organisation of “Au Goût du Terroir“, a local market where regional products were offered throughout a full weekend.

The positive experience gained in Käerjeng has led us to organise a small producers’ market during this year’s “Dag an der Natur”. Eleven producers have agreed to present and sell their goods at Ellergronn on 13 May.

Fresh and regional vegetables, eggs, pasta, honey and various drinks will be on sale during the day.

The vegetables will be offered directly by three producers. The Escher Geméisguart, the Geméiswierk from Contern and L’Atelier de Joanne from Audun-le-Tiche will offer fresh products throughout the day. The organic farm “an Dudel” from Sprinkange will also be present with a stand at the local market and will offer its pasta, among other things. The eggs that will be on sale in Ellergronn on 13 May come from the producer Eggs And Hopp from Kahler. The honey offered at the “Dag an der Natur” is one of the “Mmmh…. Minett!” products: honey collected in the valley of the Chiers from bees in the Natura 2000 areas surrounding Differdange. Finally, La Pierreuse from Aumetz will introduce you to its rapeseed, sunflower and flax oils…

In terms of beverages, the L&R Kox winery from Remich will be present with juice and wine, Opyos Beverages from Keiwelbach will be selling their gin, pastis and vermouth and Gilbert Barone from Garnich will be offering his handcrafted liqueurs.

The local farmers’ market will be rounded off by Editions Phi from Belvaux, who will bring their (children’s) books and the geopoetic travel diary Rocklines about the Minett UNESCO Biosphere written by Davide S. Sapienza and Robert Weis to Ellergronn.

Access to Ellergronn

To get to Ellergronn, it is possible to use public transport. The TICE line 12 serves the Place Pierre Ponath stop at the entrance to Ellergronn every 30 minutes. Just before Ellergronn, there will also be a reception car park from which a horse-drawn carriage will run to the nature conservation centre and the activities of the “Dag an der Natur”.
