From industrial wasteland to nature reserve, the former open-cast mines of southern Luxembourg have seen nature reassert itself with astonishing force.
Five photographers – Guy Conrady, Mario Cordella, Roland Felten, Jan Herr and Marc Weis – reveal this extraordinary metamorphosis.
A living mosaic is revealed in 29 striking images that capture lunar landscapes transformed into havens of biodiversity, unique habitats where life is once again flourishing, and rare species that have made these places their kingdom.
This travelling gallery tells the story of ecological resilience at the heart of the Natura 2000 network. The photographers take us on a journey through these protected areas, where each image bears witness to the regenerative power of nature.
This exhibition, which is open to everyone, is a testimony to the rich biodiversity of the Minett region, which joined the UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves in 2020. Come and rediscover these nature reserves which, decades after the end of mining, represent an exceptional ecological heritage.
The exhibition ‘Natura 2000 – Minetter Dagebaugebidder’ can be visited until 10 May, Monday to Friday from 10.00 to 18.00 hrs and Saturday from 14.00 to 18.00 hrs at the cultural centre ‘Aalt Stadhaus’ in Differdange.
