Another orchard in Lamadelaine is open to the public

Since 2022, the municipalities of our biosphere reserve have made their orchards accessible to visitors. In these communal green spaces, every inhabitant of the Minett UNESCO Biosphere can pick fruit for free to use themselves afterwards.

In 2025, the municipality of Pétange released another orchard for our Tutti Frutti project. This third orchard, located on a hill behind the ponds in the village of Lamadelaine, is situated in the far south-west of our biosphere reserve. Spanning almost one hectare, it is home to 54 young fruit trees. This newly accessible orchard contains apple, pear and plum trees, although they currently bear very little fruit.

Nevertheless, a walk through this area is highly recommended, as it provides access to one of the Minett UNESCO Biosphere’s core zones: the Prënzebierg/Giele Botter nature reserve. This can be reached in just a few minutes via the Sentier des Mineurs. This impressive site is a testament to the industrial history of our region, where iron ore was mined in open-cast mines until 1978.
