In mid-October, Lucie Majerus started to work for the inter-municipal association PRO-SUD. Lucie’s task is to coordinate and organise MiNELL, the Minett Natur an Ëmwelt Léier Lab.
The MiNELL programme has already organised several events this year for the general public, teachers and school children. Next year, these activities will be further developed.
To find out more about this project, we asked Lucie three questions.
What is the idea behind the MiNELL project?
The Minett Natur an Ëmwelt Léierlab tries to teach nature, environmental science and nature conservation to different target groups. This ranges from school trips with scientists to events for adults and further training for teachers, to name but a few.
Are there already projects or events planned for 2023?
In 2023, we are planning a new edition of the Beyouthsphere Youth Forum. Training courses for teachers on the topics of beetles and wild orchids are planned. With two classes, we will enhance the arboretum in Rumelange and a project on biodiversity in the urban space will be launched at the Guillaume Kroll high school.
When you are involved in nature and environmental education, you are bound to have a relationship with nature. What motivated you to work for a biosphere reserve?
Since I was a child, nature has been an important part of my life: a source of relaxation and a place of beauty. For the past three years, I have set up a community garden with a group of friends where we grow organic vegetables. Nowadays it is more important than ever to protect our nature and I am happy to be able to commit myself professionally to this.
The full programme of MiNELL 2023, the Minett UNESCO Biosphere, will be presented in January.
