MOOD – Metzeschmelz Official Opening Day

Saturday, October 8^th 2022

Take part in the creation of a new district located between the city of Esch-sur-Alzette and the Commune of Schifflange.

“MOOD” is the event that brings us together in the heart of the “Metzeschmelz” project.

During this day, guided tours in Luxembourgish, German and French will be organized to discover the history of the site and the potential of the future district. You will be able to exchange with experts (architects, urban planners, politicians) working on the project, discover the urban vision, watch informative films, follow conferences on the future district and take part in participative workshops.

Here are the topics discussed during the workshops of this day of discovery of the “Metzeschmelz” project:

• Citizen Involvement: How collective intelligence, co-creation and citizen participation will optimize the quality of life in the future Metzeschmelz district.
• Buildings & Uses – A mixed and diverse city: The identity of the new Metzeschmelz district will combine mixed use, attractive public spaces and innovative buildings. The point of view of one of the project designers will be the subject of this conference.
• Mobility: Presentation of the mobility strategy that plays a major role in the future vision of the Metzeschmelz: low-car concept, active mobility, public transport
• Sustainability: The Metzeschmelz eco-neighbourhood is part of the global process of decarbonization and transition to climate neutrality
• Urbanism: Through concepts such as rainwater harvesting and the development of green spaces, AGORA aims to create a resilient neighborhood with high quality sustainable living spaces.
• Heritage: The Metzeschmelz project, with its strong steelmaking past, will integrate and enhance the remarkable industrial heritage of the site.
