In this episode of our Minett Mash-Up podcast, we meet another decision-maker from one of the eleven municipalities of the Minett UNESCO Biosphere. The municipality of Kayl-Tétange is our sixth stop on this year’s journey through Luxembourg’s only biosphere reserve. Although neither Kayl nor Tétange had ironworks, the municipality, which is located alongside the Kaylbach, is closely tied to the industrial history of the region and its current natural wealth. We had plenty of exciting topics and stories to discuss with the mayor of Kayl in the park.
Our “Minett-Location” of the month: Park Ouerbett
We recorded this episode of “Minett Mash-Up” at the Park Ouerbett. This green space in the centre of Kayl, which opened in 2010, was even a finalist for the Luxembourg Architecture Prize in 2011. It is a peaceful retreat for all ages, offering a playground, public sports facilities, and a pavilion where a restaurant is set to reopen soon.
Our guest: Jean Weiler
Jean Weiler has been the mayor of the municipality of Kayl-Tétange since 2022. Prior to his political career, he worked as a teacher. He told us that he is a true resident of the Kayl Valley, having lived in all of its villages.
During our conversation, we discussed the challenges of developing a municipality located in a relatively narrow valley between two extraordinary nature reserves. We also talked to him about the ‘Plan de Développement Communal’ and the future Kayl-Nord district. We also discussed the local industrial history and the infrastructure created by the municipality, such as the Musée Ferrum.
