Minett Mash-Up: Michel Wolter & Yves Cruchten X Käerjenger Museksschoul

In this episode, we meet two more local politicians from a municipality in Luxembourg’s only biosphere reserve. This time, we travel to the municipality of Käerjeng to meet Michel Wolter and Yves Cruchten. In this episode of our travelling podcast through the Minett region, we talk to the two politicians about their experiences in national and local politics, the industrial culture in their municipality, the possibility of a beer museum, and the challenges they face in the future.

Our “Minett-Location” of the month: Käerjenger Museksschoul

At 34 km², Käerjeng is the largest municipality in the Minett Biosphere Reserve by area. As the only municipality in the canton of Capellen to be part of the biosphere, it occupies a special position.

The municipal administration is currently housed in temporary premises, pending the construction of a new town hall to replace the old 1960s building. The offices are currently divided between the former kindergarten, the municipal workshops, and the Bascharage music school. The new town hall is an innovative building: it will be the first public administration building in Luxembourg to operate entirely without an external heating system.

Our guests: Michel Wolter & Yves Cruchten

Michel Wolter is a former minister and long-serving parliamentarian who has been mayor of Käerjeng for 15 years. He remains passionate about his role as mayor of this municipality, formed from the former municipalities of Bascharage and Clemency.

Yves Cruchten has been an alderman in Käerjeng for almost two years and sits on the board of the PRO-SUD syndicate, which manages the Luxembourg Biosphere Reserve. He is also a member of the Chamber of Deputies and an active member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg.
