Recently, the 3rd and updated edition of the brochure “Sur les traces du passé” of the Fondation Bassin Minier was published.
It is a touristic guide focusing on the industrial heritage of our region. In 10 different chapters, the authors describe the various aspects of Minett, its history and its industrial and architectural heritage, including the present.
Faces of history, industry and buildings
The first chapter presents the various industrial museums in the region. These range from the Minett-Park in Fonds-de-Gras to the Centre National de la Culture Industrielle in Dudelange.
The new district of Belval, with its blast furnaces, does not appear in this chapter of the guidebook, but is presented in a separate chapter, in which you will find a multitude of information about the last blast furnaces in Luxembourg.
Furthermore, the brochure of the Fondation Bassin Minier offers a tour through the architectural diversity of the Minett. It takes you through former working-class districts, but also to the large boulevards of the southern cities, which bear witness to a time when the country’s wealth was drawn from the red earth of Minett.
From heritage to nature and culture
Traces of this can still be found in Minett’s nature, so it is only logical that in the updated version of this guide an entire chapter invites the reader to go into nature with all its present richness.
In this section, you can discover the old open-pit mines and the guide already announces the new Minett-Trail, which will be realised for Esch2022 – European Capital of Culture – and which will link all 11 member municipalities of the Pro-Sud inter-communal syndicate.
The booklet “In the footsteps of the past” also presents the current industry and innovation centres of the region. One chapter of the booklet deals with the cultural offer that the Minett has to offer, another chapter is dedicated to the gastronomy in the south of Luxembourg and one highlights the sporting opportunities and offers that are available throughout the entire region.
The guide is free of charge and can be found in many places or picked up in any Pro-Sud town hall. Have fun reading it and then discovering Minett.
