Meeting of the Scientific Committee of the Minett Biosphere

The scientific committee of the Minett UNESCO Biosphere met last Thursday, January 22, 2026.

The meeting’s objective was to define the main directions for the years ahead. This session was held in the context of the 5th World Congress of Biosphere Reserves in Hangzhou.

The new global strategy for UNESCO biospheres (2026–2035) focuses on a profound transformation of the relationship between people and nature. It aims to position biosphere regions as examples for sustainability, innovation, and cooperation. Thirty-four concrete objectives are at the center of this plan. These include support for the restoration of natural areas, promotion of a responsible lifestyle, and the integration of climate adaptation into regional planning.

The scientific committee also wants to strengthen ties between science and society. This will take place through interdisciplinary projects and the involvement of various actors: universities, local representatives, associations, and businesses.

Minett Trail: a great success

The Minett Trail and its “Kabaisercher” were highly praised by the participants. This ecotourism initiative is managed by the SimpleViu platform. In 2025, more people stayed overnight in the Kabaisercher than ever before. This success reflects the growing interest in authentic, nature-oriented stays, with positive effects on the region. Committee members emphasized how important it is to continue along this path. They encourage the creation of additional overnight stays that retain a strong link to local heritage.

The committee also made recommendations. Greater visibility for the measures—both for residents and visitors—is desired. Expanding partnerships with neighboring regions is also planned. A number of meetings are already scheduled throughout 2026. The goal: to continue dialogue, adjust priorities, and involve civil society as well as political representatives even more closely in the collective adventure of the Minett UNESCO Biosphere.
