Engaging Young Minds: A MiNELL Project with École Internationale Gaston Thorn

In spring 2025, the École Internationale Gaston Thorn began an inspiring educational journey with the Minett UNESCO Biosphere as part of the MiNELL (Minett Natur an Ëmwelt Léier Lab) project.

The initiative aimed to foster awareness of, and appreciation for, biodiversity and sustainable development among young students. Through a series of carefully planned sessions, field trips and workshops, pupils immersed themselves in the natural and industrial heritage of the Minett region.

Future Stewards of the Biosphere

Our MiNELL project at the École Internationale Gaston Thorn offered pupils a transformative educational experience, blending classroom learning with real-world application. The students emerged as informed advocates for biodiversity and sustainable development, armed with the knowledge, skills and passion needed to protect our environment.

Key takeaways:

  • The initial session provided a solid understanding of the biosphere’s geological and ecological significance.
  • The field trip offered practical insights into conservation challenges and nature’s recovery.
  • The participatory workshop fostered creativity and teamwork in crafting awareness campaigns.
  • The final projects in June showcased the students’ ability to educate others through diverse and engaging formats.

This spring initiative is a testament to the power of education in nurturing the next generation of environmental stewards and ensuring that the legacy of the Minett UNESCO Biosphere endures.
