Hive is the award-winning debut feature by director Blerta Basholli, and a moving portrait of resilience in the aftermath of war. Inspired by true events, it follows Fahrije, a woman in rural Kosovo whose husband vanished during the conflict. Faced with the challenge of supporting her family in a deeply patriarchal environment, she begins producing and selling homemade ajvar and honey together with other women whose loved ones are also missing. Her determination, however, meets with resistance and hostility from the community, forcing Fahrije to confront prejudice and threats while forging a path toward independence and dignity.
Beyond its powerful narrative of personal courage and collective solidarity, Hive made history at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival, becoming the first film from Kosovo to win the Grand Jury Prize, Audience Award, and Directing Award in the World Cinema Dramatic competition. It was later selected as Kosovo’s official entry for the 2022 Academy Awards.
