Let’s eat local

Between November 2020 and February 2021, the Minett UNESCO Biosphere, in collaboration with the Luxembourg Institute of Socio-Economic Research (LISER), carried out a major analysis of the importance of local food products in southern Luxembourg.

Around 10,000 households were contacted and the results of this statistically representative study will be published next Thursday.

Before the results are published, we already spoke to the mayor of Schifflange, Paul Weimerskirch. We wanted to know how important he thinks local products are here in the South:

We also wanted to know from him what means a local authority has to stimulate local food production:

Another important point for the officials of the municipality of Schifflange is the activation of their citizens – keywords “urban gardening” and ” allotment gardens”.

However, it was not easy for Paul Weimerskirch to spontaneously name three products from Minett or from his municipality. The question of awareness of regional products was also a topic in the large study on food products from the South and the answer to this question will be given next week when we present the full study carried out by PRO-SUD and LISER.
